Admirably staged and you will intelligently dialogued, it’ll have zero higher difficulties inside the living down the incredibly unsightly title.” [ 8 ]

The latest film’s writer and you will manager, Robert Rossen, creates an effective multidimensional chess online game, to have mortal stakes, ranging from Johnny, his workplace (Thomas Gomez), their boss’s wife (Ellen Drew), a good cagey police inspector (Lee J. Cobb), and you may good scuffling celebrity (Evelyn Keyes) whose sister (Nina Foch) did on gambling enterprise and old a beneficial corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). Cobb, because a police inspector, including in the get . Whilst the plot pursue a familiar development, the new characterizations is fresh together with performances good enough to help you overbalance. It is primarily a question of watching Mr. Powell go through their paces fashionably if you’re a giant cast out of actors and you can actresses provide him customary service. Evelyn Keyes performs the great little woman exactly who brings forth new best in your and Ellen Received is the smooth and you will slinky vixen just who will get your for the jams. Thomas Gomez are greasy as the villain and you can Lee J. Cobb does an alternate in a position trip as a weary police inspector just who ultimately shuts your situation. Significant amounts of consuming and you may puffing is carried out from the most of the worried.” [ several ]
